Ahn, Doo-jin was born in 1975 and graduated from Hongik University studying both BFA and MFA in Painting. After being awarded as ‘A rising artist’ from Joongang Fine Arts Prize, his solo exhibitions were held by GyeongGi Cultural Foundation and nonprofit alternative spaces. Also going through domestic and foreign residency programs, he became one of the remarkable Korean young artists who work actively in this field. Ahn, Doo-jin has already carried various genres such as paintings, drawings and object installations from many other shows.
The artist created his own formative theory called ‘Imaquark’ to express his works. The compound word ‘Imaquark’ is formed from the words ‘Ima’ of ‘Image’ and ‘Quark’ which is an elementary particle. ‘Imaquark’ is produced from the idea of trying to prove that art can be divided into units and to specify the world of formative arts we imagine and that allows. As all materials of the world are created by the smallest unit of an element with arrays and structures, art also can recreate new genres and images according to the operation of ‘Imaquark’, the minimum unit of visual areas. Using this principle and the way of action, the artist first tries to develop the fundamental concept of his work, and then expresses art through the ways of metaphor.
